Samsung announced two new watches — the Galaxy Watch 9 (40mm and 44mm) and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 (47mm) — alongside its new foldable and flip phones. The Ultra 2 is where the interesting hardware lives, and it’s a genuine step up — not a spec bump. The battery jumps to 800mAh, rated at up to 60 hours, and for the first time in the Galaxy Watch line it does fast charging — Samsung says roughly 40% in 30 minutes. The display is the headline: a 1.52-inch AMOLED at up to 5,000 nits, which Samsung calls the brightest smartwatch screen yet. And here’s the part I respect: despite the bigger battery, the titanium case is about 12% slimmer than the first Ultra. Bigger cell, thinner watch — that’s real engineering, not marketing. Line these seven watches up and the spec sheet lies to you a little. On paper the Watch 9 and the Pixel Watch 4 look like cousins — same Snapdragon-family silicon, same Wear OS lineage, similar screens, prices within thirty dollars of each other. The thing the table can’t show is that on value per dollar, the standard Watch 9 is in a genuine fight it might lose. So here’s the one line to leave with. Ignore the AI health checklist — it’s mostly free on older watches. If you want a Samsung watch and you already own one, wait. If you’re buying fresh and you live outdoors, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is the most complete watch Samsung has made and the first that genuinely pressures Apple’s Ultra on price. The standard Galaxy Watch 9 is a fine watch with an invisible upgrade — good for new buyers, skippable for everyone else.
